Hypolipidemic effects of microencapsulated powder fraction from Hibiscus sabdariffa. L calyx in hyperlipidic rats

چکیده

The lipid-lowering activity of microencapsulated and nonmicroencapsulated Hibiscus sabdariffa L. powder fractions in rats rendered hyperlipidemic by a hyperlipid diet (HLD) was determined. Dried calyces H. were finely ground fractionated on sieve column to retain particle sizes ϕ < 315 µm, with maltodextrin (MD). Rats randomly divided into four groups: normal control group, group (negative groups), supplemented atorvastatin, non-microencapsulated (NMEPHS) (MEPHS) powders from groups. received NMEPHS MEPHS for three weeks. Atorvastatin (10 mg/kg) individual dissolved water administered at dose 250 mg/kg body weight Body weight, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), high-density (HDL-C), aspartate transferase (AST), alanine (ALT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) malondialdehyde (MDA) measured. Very (VLDL-C), hepatosomatic index (HSI), adiposomatic (ASI) calculated. Lipid profil, MDA increased the negative rat groups compared group. significantly reduced gain, ASI, HSI, TC, TG, LDL-C, ALT, AST, HDL-C level significantly. Moreover, SOD CAT activities HLD HSCP intake. however, most significant revealed MEPHS. These results suggest that exerts potent effects, promotes hepatic fat breakdown, regulates antioxidant enzymes more efficient manner.

Hibiscus sabdariffa L., roselle calyx, from ethnobotany to pharmacology.

Using MEDLINE and SCOPUS databases, a review of the literature from the pioneering study of 1991 until 2010 was performed on the effects on biological models of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. roselle calyx, its extracts mainly in polar solvents, or pure components found in extracts, as well as their possible relationship to these effects. Three relevant effects on lipid metabolism, antihypertensive act...

Toxic Effects of Hibiscus Sabdariffa Calyx

The effects of a 90-day oral administration of water and alcohol extracts of dried calyx of Hibiscus sabdariffa were evaluated in albino rats. Haematological, biochemical and histopathological changes were monitored every 30 days. The death of the animals was preceded by a severe loss in weight, accompanied with diarrhoea in animals on the 2000 mg/kg dose. There was an increase in food intake (...

Histological effects of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) calyx in diets of albino rats

Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyx was fermented traditionally and by controlled method with pure strains of Aspergillus flavus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolated from the fermentation. The proximate composition revealed that the sample fermented traditionally had the highest protein content of 14.7±2.5%. There was a significant decrease (Pd≤0.05) in the antinutrient content (phytate and ta...

Hypolipidemic effect of ethanolic extract from the leaves of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. in hyperlipidemic rats.

The present study is designed to investigate the hypolipidemic effect of ethanolic extract from the leaves of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (HSEE) in hyperlipidemic rats. In the present work, HSEE was evaluated at three doses (i.e. 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, orally) in cholesterol-induced (2 g/kg, orally) hyperlipidemic Wistar rats. Atorvastatin (10 mg/kg, orally) was used as the standard drug. Administr...
